James Higgins & Co History
James commenced his legal career in 1964 when he joined Mallesons as a graduate solicitor. He practised primarily in the area of banking and finance and in 1974 he became a partner, then managing partner of the Sydney office in 1984, returning to Melbourne in 1987. James retired from that partnership in 1998 and opened his own private practice James Higgins & Co. In addition to his legal career James has held a number of company directorships of private and public companies, is an active member of the Australian Club, golfer and member of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, grand-father of 8 grand-children. In 2018 James retired from full-time practice but still consults to the firm.

Sasha Bennetts
Principal
James’ daughter Sasha Bennetts graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1991. In 1992 went on to Bond University in Queensland where she graduated with a Bachelor or Laws (Honours). In 1995 she undertook her Articles of Clerkship at Mallesons in Melbourne and continued on as a junior solicitor in the superannuation and financial products department. From there she joined Kenna Teasdale Lawyers in William Street before joining her father’s practice in 1998, where she remains today as Principal. Sasha has over 20 years of knowledge and experience in succession law and property law. She is a mother of three adult daughters, and is an active member of Royal South Yarra Tennis Club and the St Catherine’s Old Girls Association.
